The department is unique in carrying out
acoustics research and education and in having conducted a lot of research
on the production and utilization of moving images.
In the field of human living systems, much research has been carried out
in core areas of environmental ergonomics. Thus we have several research
groups related to the evaluation of artificial environments. We have 3 important
units for research and education; environmental physiology, perceptual psychology
and design. Quite often these fields are classified as science and technology,
humanities and social sciences and as design. These fields are distinct
but in this institute researchers work together. Both in Japan and abroad
there are institutes conducting successful studies of environmental psychology
or perceptual psychology. The point of the present program is to utilize
our knowledge of these areas for a common purpose, i.e. to create artificial
environments. |
