Laboratory Tour Hiroyuki Watanabe, Trustee of Kyushu University, visited the COE Laboratory. Yoshitaka Nakajima, Kimio Shiraishi, Kazuo Ueda, and Katsuya Yamauchi guided the tour. Two undergraduate students, Saori Ide and Yoshinori Kanazawa, gave a demonstration of electroencephalogram measurement under music and environmental sounds.

Special Lecture
in a Seminar		 The Consortium of Auditory Research Laboratories in O'hashi has been holding Joint Seminars regularly since 2001. The Consortium consists of Nakajima, Shiraishi, and Ueda Laboratories. All of the laboratory members attend the Joint Seminar. Special Lectures on a specific topic are occasionally included in the Seminar. The first Special Lecture in 2004 was given as a workshop of the COE Program. Dr. Shiraishi, a member of Environmental Physiology Unit of the COE Program, introduced basic knowledge of event related potential measurement and gave a demonstration of the measurement with a cooperation of a student as a guinea pig. The demonstration was effectively performed with the facilities supported by the COE Program.

Contents Kimio SHIRAISHI (Environmental Physiology Unit), Yoshitaka NAKAJIMA (Perceptual Psychology Unit), and Kazuo UEDA (Perceptual Psychology Unit) guided the tour showing facilities for the COE Program, including an electroencephalogram analysis system (Nihon Koden, EEG-1100), an event related potentials analysis system (Nihon Koden, MEB-2204), an auditory and visual stimulus presentation system (Iwatsu, IS-703), two soundproof booths with electromagnetic shields (Music Cabin, SC-3 and SC-5), and a sound measurement system (Bruel & Kjaer, PULSE).
