We carried out the signage plan (layout plan and signage design) for the Art and Engineering Library on the Ohashi Campus of Kyushu University, and the signage was installed both outdoors around the Art and Engineering Library and inside the library.

Since the Geiko Library has a collection of Leonardo’s drawings as a rare book, we have placed Leonardo’s drawings as art on some of the signs.

General information sign at entrance
The shelf layout of each floor is displayed, so you can see which specialized books are located on which floor.
The lower part of the sign features a selection of images from Leonardo’s drawings, laid out in consideration of the diverse expertise of the Kyushu University Graduate School of Art and Design.

Map graphic production: Junpei Hoshino (2023 graduate of the Kudo Laboratory)
In creating the map, we attempted to evaluate the impact of differences in the rotation angle of the guide map image on the mental processes involved in spatial search tasks, and we created the map design using a projection method that conforms to the “alignment principle” of aligning the direction of the map reader with the direction of the real space indicated on the map, and using three-dimensional representation to enable the user to check the information on the map against the visible real-world scenery. We asked people with and without intellectual disabilities to compare and evaluate the designs, and then we refined and adopted the design that was the easiest to understand.
