Concert: Where is ‘Music’? vol.1 Hand / Site

Concert by students of the Kyushu University Graduate School of Design, Composition Class
Where is ‘Music’? vol.1 Hand / Site

The concert “Where is ‘Music’? vol.1 Hand / Site” by students of the Kyushu University Graduate School of Design’s Experimental Composition Studies.

In this class, the students have been reading the journal ‘Source: Music of the Avant-Garde’, published in the USA in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and have been exposed to experimental scores and the words of the composers.
The recurring theme was a fundamental debate: “How do we define music and to what extent can we call it music?”
The question that naturally emerged from this process of contemplation was the title of this performance: “Where is ‘music’?” The question that was naturally shared by the students in the course of such contemplation was “Where is ‘music’?

In the class, the students also worked on their own original works on the themes of ‘Hand’ and ‘Place’ (Site/Ohashi Campus).
In this concert, ten students will present new works as a result of these efforts, as well as historical works that resonate with the theme.
Please come and witness fresh and diverse attempts to question the contours of “music” from unexpected angles.
