Growing Importance of International Exchange

Kyushu University, as a university open to the world, aims to develop internationally minded human resources. The Faculty of Design (School of Design, Graduate School of Design) is actively engaged in international exchange activities in both research and education.

The international exchange activities include faculty and student exchanges, academic information exchange, and joint research based on exchange agreements, as well as actively accepting many international students. Furthermore, the university contributes to the internationalization of society by holding international symposiums and research meetings. In addition, exchange activities between international students from different countries and faculty members and university students are actively conducted on the Ohashi Campus.

Exchange programs are also available to those universities that have signed student exchange agreements. We hope that by experiencing different cultures while studying abroad, students will be able to develop their academic skills and acquire an international perspective.

The Double Degree Program

The Double Degree Program allows students to study abroad at a partner university while enrolled at Kyushu University and earn degrees from both universities upon completion of the designated curriculum.
The Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University, concluded a double degree agreement with the College of Planning and Design, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, in 2024. Students participating in the Double Degree Program will receive multidisciplinary and multifaceted instruction from multiple faculty members, including academic advisors from both Kyushu University and National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, enabling them to acquire advanced knowledge and skills and a broad perspective. In addition, students can expect to improve their English language skills, which are necessary to be active globally. Furthermore, by studying in different countries and regions, students can hone their spirit of challenge and comprehensive cross-cultural understanding, which are important for international success.
We aim to nurture "international designers" who can play an active role in the international community in response to ever-evolving and expanding areas of design expertise.

International Program

The International Program aims to develop the stance, attitudes, and communication skills necessary to work independently in international society and to develop human resources with specialized design knowledge and skills and a sense of identity of their own country. By studying abroad or taking equivalent courses, students will learn approaches, methods, and ideas for design that do not exist in Japan to broaden their scope of design.

Student Exchange and Credit Transfer System

Our faculty (School of Design and Graduate School of Design) is actively engaged in exchange programs with overseas universities with similar specialties. Partner institutions below are schools with which we have concluded a faculty-level international exchange agreement and academic cooperation in addition to for-credit student exchange programs. The credit transfer system allows students to count credits earned at their host university as course credits toward graduation.

In addition to the international exchange partner universities listed below, students can also study at partner institutions of university-level. For more information, please refer to the world map of Kyushu University's partner institutions.
