From December 17 to 19, 2025, the International Program of Kyushu University’s School of Design and the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center (URC) held the exhibition “Poster Exhibition: Student-Designed Solutions for a Carbon-Free Lifestyle” at the Fukuoka City Hall lobby (Multipurpose Space).
This exhibition was organized as part of the URC’s ongoing research project, “Behavioral Change Toward a Zero-Carbon City Fukuoka,” which has been conducted since 2024.
Students from the International Program created their proposals in English to encourage young people to take carbon-free actions. Both the original English posters and simplified Japanese versions produced through machine translation were displayed.
The posters presented solutions across three themes:
-Water conservation
-Local production and consumption
-Ethical consumption (consumer choices that consider people, society, and the environment)
Visitors were invited to select their favorite poster, write their thoughts on a “Comments & Feedback” sheet, and place it in the ballot box. As a token of appreciation, each participant could choose one special sticker from six designs based on student posters.
Over the three-day exhibition, 65 members of the public cast their votes, demonstrating strong community engagement with the students’ ideas and the broader goal of promoting zero-carbon behavior.
Here are some of the comments they made:
“When raising awareness among young people, many are put off by the strength of the term ‘decarbonisation’. However, I felt the catchy illustrations lowered the barrier to ‘decarbonisation’, making the content more accessible.”
“Really pretty design & practical idea for the issue.”
“Reducing CO₂ emissions effectively involves small cycles of consumption; I thought this point was well captured.”
We sincerely thank all visitors who viewed the exhibition, shared their comments, and supported the students’ creative efforts.
