The reason why I chose the Graduate School of Design

I have always been interested in fields that connect sensory experience with theory. However, I was born without a sense of smell, which made culinary fields difficult for me, and my eyesight was not very strong either. So I decided to become a “Sonic Sage” (laughs), with deep expertise in all phenomena related to sound. My direction has changed several times since entering university, but now I feel that I am steadily mastering both artistic expression and acoustic theory. Little by little, I am getting closer to becoming the “Sonic Sage” I envisioned.

My most memorable class

All the classes left an equally strong impression. Each class introduced new concepts, making them ideal entry points for learning theories related to sound, whether psychological or physical.
If I had to pick one, though, it would be badminton, which we played in the "Practice of Exercise and Sport Science."

My student life

As you can probably tell from my writing, my university life has been rather ordinary, so I don't have many standout memories. However, I am constantly thinking about "how sound is produced, how it travels, and how it is heard." Sound is undeniably at the center of my life.
Rather than any single extraordinary event, I believe that these small, everyday realizations are my steps toward becoming a “Sonic Sage.”

Message to prospective students

This graduate school offers an environment where, if you are interested in anything related to sound, you can start working on it immediately. Personally, I have never had the experience of thinking, “I wanted to try this, but couldn’t because of a lack of facilities or support.” I can say without exaggeration that I have no regrets at all about my student life here. For anyone who wants to engage sincerely with the phenomenon of sound, I believe this is a place where you can gain truly fulfilling experiences.
