The reason why I chose the Graduate School of Design

I have been researching ukiyo-e since my undergraduate years. Before entering this program, I was affiliated with an aesthetics laboratory within the Graduate School of Informatics. While aesthetics and art history seem unconventional to informatics, I chose the Graduate School of Design to strengthen my academic background.

My most memorable class

Our regular seminars. During these sessions, we share and discuss updates on our research with our supervisor and fellow students. While we work on different topics, the diversity of these discussions helps me broaden my perspectives.
As the doctoral program does not include required classes, I also took the opportunity to audit several undergraduate and master's-level lectures. I was particularly impressed by lectures taught by professors from theoretical and practice-based fields, which offered multifaceted insights and critiques.

My student life

I am refining my research by repeatedly reading books and deepening my thinking and writing. Since I tend to become closed off in my relationships and perspective, my advisor introduced me to study groups, seminars in other labs, and reading groups. I actively participate in all of these. At these gatherings, other professors provide valuable feedback on my research, for which I am grateful.
Thanks to the connections I have made there, I have had the opportunity to assist a professor with creating their artwork. The opportunity to apply my AI knowledge and programming skills alongside my art history research is a unique experience of the Graduate School of Design.
