Faculty Position Opening for the Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University

We have an opening for a faculty member at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University. Details are as follows.

1. Title: Assistant Professor (Education and research related to design, also in charge of English education in KIKAN Education)

4. Number of Positions: Assistant Professor, one person

5. Teaching Subjects scheduled to be in charge:
Teaching an average of six 90-minute EFL(-related) classes per week from KIKAN Education subjects
such as:
Global Issues
Academic Issues
Production 1
Production 2
English for Design

In addition to above KIKAN education subjects, teaching design-related subjects may be required.

6. Job Description:
(1) Education and research related to various types of Design conducted at the Faculty of Design
(2) Teaching English at KIKAN Education
(3) Participation in university committee works including entrance exam matters

7. Location:
Kyushu University, Ohashi Campus, 4-9-1 Shiobaru, Minami-ku, Fukuoka, 815-8540, JAPAN
(Ohashi Campus is the main location, and there are activities at other campuses, including teaching at Ito campus)

8. Employment period:
Three years maximum: No renewal.

9. Date of appointment (starting date):
September 1st, 2026 or any time after

10. Qualifications:
The applicant must have a comprehensive understanding and interest in the study of design and also fulfil the following conditions.
(1) The candidate must have experience teaching English language courses at institutions of higher education (universities or equivalent), either in Japan or abroad.
(2) The candidate should possess high fluency of English and be able to teach subjects in English.
(3) The candidate must be able to conduct education and research related to the various types of design developed at the Faculty of Design.
(4) A Ph.D. degree or equivalent level is required (ability to obtain a Ph.D. degree within a few years after enrollment).
(5) Ability to manage administration works at school of design, faculty of design, department of design and university-wide operation with collaborative attitude.
(6) Japanese language proficiency to fulfill educational and administration works is advantage.

11. Treatment:
1) Wages: The annual salary system (annual salary system introduced on April 1, 2020) will be applied.
 The amount of annual salary will be determined in accordance with relevant regulations of Kyushu University based on experience, etc.

2) Working Hours: Under the Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work, the person is considered to have worked 7 hours and 45 minutes.
