The Department of Acoustic Design, Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, will present two programmes at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as part of DANC program: a performance by Dead Plants & Living Objects and a workshop showing of Listening Score #1.
Dead Plants & Living Objects is a duo formed by Pierre Berthet, based in Belgium, and Rie Nakajima, based in the UK. Using everyday objects such as tin cans, ceramics, sponges, and buckets, they strike, rub, and throw materials to bring out the sounds and movements inherent in each object. Their performance creates a space in which audiences are surrounded by things and invited to listen closely to their subtle murmurs.
For Listening Score #1, New York-based choreographer and artist Maho Ogawa joins participants in a two-day workshop on October 24 and 25. Through listening to sound, attending to bodily sensations, walking through the city, and working with memory, participants create “scores” or sets of instructions. The October 29 showing will present a performance developed from these scores by Maho Ogawa, Tomoko Hojo, and workshop participants.
Following the two programmes, there will be an after-talk with the artists.
