Fukuoka International Film Festival With Everyone 2025: Giving Children an “Unforgettable, Wonderful Film Experience”

The Fukuoka International Film Festival With Everyone 2025, primarily organized and operated by faculty members of the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, will be held over three days from Thursday, December 25 to Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Kyushu University Ohashi Campus and Denki Building Mirai Hall.

This festival offers screenings of cinematic masterpieces that nurture the hearts of sensitive children, as well as opportunities for dialogue with professionals working at the forefront of the industry.

The theme for 2025 is “The Possibilities Revealed by Living with Children.” Whether you have children or not, and whether you are an adult or a child, how does interacting with the existence of a “child” change the world we see and our lives? These three days are dedicated to sharing that richness and discovery through film.

This Christmas, please look forward to this “cultural gift to the next generation” sent from Fukuoka.

Four Highlights of the Festival

1. December 25: A Christmas Gift of Movies at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus!
In the Multi-purpose Building, NPOs and students have collaborated to present a Christmas filled with excitement and treats (“Wakuwaku Mogumogu”) for children! The lineup features masterpieces where children are the protagonists, including:
Moving (Ohikkoshi), Look Back, The First Half-Step (Saisho no Hanpo), The Legacy of the Sun (Nichirin no Isan)
Fun events are also planned. Please come and join us!

Additionally, the Fukuoka International Film Festival With Everyone International Short Film Competition Results Announcement & Screening Event will be held in the Workshop Room of Building 7. Let’s enjoy international exchange together.

2. Talked-About Films Depicting Children by World-Renowned Directors
We will screen a collection of films that re-examine the relationship between children and adults. The lineup includes Like Father, Like Son by our Executive Advisor, director Hirokazu Kore-eda; Renoir by the rising star Chie Hayakawa, who garnered attention at the Cannes Film Festival; and Ordinary Children (Futsu no Kodomo) by director Mipo O, known for her sharp yet warm portrayal of humanity.

3. 5th Anniversary Memorial Tribute to Director Kiyoshi Sasabe, a Master with Ties to Fukuoka Director
Kiyoshi Sasabe filmed many works in Fukuoka and was loved by many fans. Marking five years since his passing, we will hold special screenings of his masterpieces depicting children: The Legacy of the Sun and The Stage of Promise (Yakusoku no Stage). We will welcome actor Takeshi Masu, Nobuyo Nomura, and other distinguished guests to dive deep into Director Sasabe’s personality and the charm of his works.

4. Symposium: “Children and Creation” – Approaching the Core of Film Creation
The festival’s grand finale will be a symposium where directors unravel their own “childhood experiences” and the “inner aspects of film creation” discovered through depicting children. We will approach the secrets of creation, exploring how creators face children and sublimate those interactions into their work.
