The School of Design and Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University, held the “Geiko International Reunion 2025” online on December 16, 2025. The event aimed to strengthen networks with alumni living abroad and share insights on diverse career paths and professional expertise.
The event took place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Japan Standard Time via the online platform SpatialChat, bringing together alumni, current students, and Kyushu University faculty and staff. The program opened with welcoming remarks from Professor Gerard B. Remijn, Director of the Geiko International Office, followed by an update on recent developments at Geiko by Assistant Professor Yaya Yao, Deputy Director.
The keynote session focused on “Diverse Career Designs” and featured four distinguished alumni speakers. Dr. Natalia Postnova, a postdoctoral researcher at a university institution in Finland; Assistant Professor Laura Blanco, a faculty member at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University; Mr. Alexis Vallet, an engineer working at a Japanese company; and Dr. Rahmawati Hidayah, an entrepreneur based in Indonesia, each shared their career journeys and experiences. The session provided participants with valuable insights into the possibilities that await after graduation.
Following the presentations, participants gathered for a group photo before moving into a networking session where conversations flowed freely in a relaxed atmosphere. The event welcomed a total of 24 participants from four countries: Japan, Indonesia, Finland, and Kuwait. It was a heartwarming occasion that brought together members of the Geiko community spanning nearly half a century—from distinguished alumni who graduated from The Kyushu Institute of Design in 1976 and 1989, to those who graduated just this past September 2025, and current students.
The Geiko International Office remains committed to providing ongoing opportunities for collaboration and co-creation through our alumni network.
