The reason why I chose the School of Design

Simply put, it was because I loved music. One reason was that my favorite musician was very particular about live sound, and through their performances, which introduced me to spatial audio and surround sound. That sparked my desire to understand sound more deeply. From there, my interests expanded to areas related to music, such as the mechanisms of electronic instruments like synthesizers. I chose this school because I wanted to study sound from various angles.

My most memorable class

“Technical Listening Training” was a particularly memorable class. The class focused on sharpening our hearing by learning to distinguish subtle differences in pitch, volume, and timbre. At first, I couldn’t tell the differences at all, but gradually I learned which aspects of sound to focus on to notice them. I found this process fascinating, and it was also memorable because it's a class we rarely experience at other universities.

My student life

I mainly belong to the club "Zenya," which organizes live events held the day before the Geiko Festival. We create the entire live performance from scratch by ourselves. I worked on sound effects, costume design, and PA operation, doing my best to improve the high-quality of the event. Also, among the Acoustic Design Course students, some handle not just sound but also lighting and video production. I believe being able to try many different things is a strength of Geiko.

Message to prospective students

Geiko is truly unique and incredibly fascinating—I think that is its greatest appeal! The people who gather here are all creative and interesting! It’s a place brimming with appeal, so I really hope you’ll work hard on your entrance exam and come challenge yourself in all sorts of ways at the School of Design!
