The reason why I chose the School of Design
My music experiences in junior high and high school fostered a strong desire to study sound. This led me to discover “acoustics," the broad academic field of sound. I chose this faculty because I learned that the School of Design's Acoustic Design Course offers four years of study and pursuit of acoustics using exceptionally well-equipped facilities.
My most memorable class
The "Room Acoustics" class in my third year was exceptionally memorable. It covered a wide range of topics, including unique acoustic phenomena, methods of handling sound in analysis, prediction techniques, and modern analytical approaches. I believe one of the strengths of Geiko is its ability to apply the knowledge gained in class to real-world situations, such as club activities. Taking this class made me feel my understanding of the sounds I hear in everyday life had deepened significantly.
My student life
At Geiko, not only classes but also club activities are very well developed. I served as the sound director for "Nullken," a school festival project that produces short animation films. In this role, I used our faculty’s recording studio for voice actor recording sessions and, through a year-long experiment, built a stable 5.1.4-channel immersive sound system for film screenings. These were truly valuable experiences that would be difficult to gain elsewhere. I also had opportunities to talk with professional engineer alumni, which allowed me to deepen my understanding of sound from diverse perspectives.
Message to prospective students
I can confidently say that there is no other place in Japan where you can study sound at such an advanced and comprehensive level. Although exam preparation was tough, I am truly glad that I am now able to study at my first-choice school, Geiko. Please cherish what you are truly passionate about learning and your desire to learn, and keep working hard toward your goals. I hope this message can offer even a little encouragement to all of you striving towards your entrance exams.
