The reason why I chose the School of Design

I have been fascinated by the unique charm of spaces that exist only in the moment—such as theater and improvisational art—and by systems that support “places for living,” like evacuation shelters and temporary housing. Although these seem completely different, both are deeply rooted in human relationships and interactions.
I was searching for a place where I could study across these two fields and found the School of Design. Now, in this environment where I can freely explore diverse fields, new interests keep emerging one after another.

My most memorable class

There are many fascinating classes, but “Basic Exercise for Landscape Fieldwork” stands out. It begins with learning about the types of leaves on campus, followed by visits to green spaces, gardens, and botanical gardens. The course culminates in a field trip where we work in a bamboo grove. Through this course, I’ve gained insights into vegetation and its uses, which makes walking around the town more enjoyable.

My student life

I try to act on anything that sparks even the slightest interest. I joined the cheerleading squad, cheering for baseball games and performing dances. I have also participated in overseas architectural volunteer work and workshops with local students. Many nights are spent with friends, brainstorming and experimenting on design assignments. My days feel like a whirlwind of scribbles, but I find the creativity in each moment truly fascinating.

Message to prospective students

When developing ideas for your work and bringing them to life, your knowledge, experiences, and skills become crucial. While passing the entrance exam is the goal, I believe that the studies you accumulate will greatly contribute to creating rich works in the future. In addition to your studies, I encourage you to meet many people and experience diverse perspectives. I look forward to the day we can challenge and inspire each other at the Ohashi Campus.
