The reason why I chose the School of Design
I have always enjoyed looking at miscellaneous goods and making crafts, which led to my interest in product design. When I wanted to learn design based on theory, not just aesthetics, I discovered the field of Industrial Design. There are several universities in Japan where you can study Industrial Design, but Kyushu University stood out to me the most. The campus left a strong and positive impression, and I felt the academic level was high, so I decided to apply here.
My most memorable class
“Product Design Practical Theory and Practice I, II” left a strong impression. During my time, we worked on projects such as designing “extremely sweet or bitter chocolate,” exploring “Dynamic Design” that visually conveys motion through form, and creating a “Personal House,” where we designed our own rooms and built scale models. These were unique experiences only possible at the School of Design. The process of designing, creating with my own hands, and seeing my ideas take shape was incredibly exciting.
My student life
I belong to a club called the “CBA Project.” CBA is a club that creates fashion shows unconstrained by existing frameworks. We conceptualize and create everything from scratch solely through student effort, including direction, costumes, models, stage design, sound effects, video, lighting, and streaming. Because we have so many members, we build connections across courses and grades. The process of preparing for a performance, where Geiko students with diverse talents unite, is truly enjoyable!!
Message to prospective students
The School of Design is one of the few faculties within a comprehensive university in Japan that offers design studies, making it an incredibly interesting department where like-minded people gather from all over Japan. Even if you are from outside Fukuoka and feel nervous about living alone without knowing anyone, you’ll be surrounded by many in the same situation, so there’s no need to worry. Believe in yourself in choosing the School of Design and give it your all!
