The reason why I chose the School of Design
At first, I was considering entering a School of Engineering. When I mentioned this to my high school teacher, he recommended Kyushu University. As I researched the university, I came across the School of Design, a faculty with a rather unique name. I have always loved drawing, and art has been an inseparable part of my life. I was drawn to the “School of Design” because it offered engineering studies while incorporating art. Additionally, I love stationery and miscellaneous goods, and I was interested in ergonomics design, so I chose the Industrial Design Course.
My most memorable class
A memorable class for me was "Innovation Design Theory and Practice I," taken in the spring semester of my third year, specifically the project “Personal Fabrication of Umbrella Handles.” The assignment involved creating an original, interchangeable handle for a vinyl umbrella using a 3D printer. I designed it in Fusion, referencing academic papers. The shape of the handle on my own umbrella happened to match one in the papers, making me realize that ergonomic design exists in everyday objects.
My student life
I truly enjoy my club activities. The School of Design is filled with students who have unique strengths across many different fields, and working with such talented peers is incredibly fun. Through my club, I've gained diverse knowledge and perspectives and had the chance to work on many wonderful projects. The time spent creating works alongside my beloved friends is the happiest time of all.
Message to prospective students
The School of Design is full of truly wonderful people. I sincerely feel it was the best decision to come to this faculty and meet my peers. I've had countless valuable experiences not only in classes, but also in clubs and daily life. I am sure wonderful encounters and experiences await you, too!
