The reason why I chose the School of Design

I originally had an interest in the advertising industry and wanted to study design. Advertising involves various outputs—video, graphics, web, and more. Instead of specializing in one form of expression, I wanted to learn broadly, which is why I chose the Media Design Course at the School of Design.
Another simple reason: the campus is close to my home, and it’s a national university (laugh).

My most memorable class

It’s hard to choose, but “Communication Design Seminar I and II” stand out. In Seminar I, we worked on package design; in Seminar II, we designed book covers. Both assignments required us to print and assemble the final product, which meant considering not only the digital design but also the paper quality and the end user. Personally, I found both very enjoyable. Since the schedules allowed, I could take classes from other courses as well, so I took many classes from the Design Futures Course. The cross-course learning environment, broadening your perspective, is one of the charms of the School of Design.

My student life

I poured my energy into our school festival projects. In my second year, I served as the production leader for “2-Ken,” a project focused on spatial expression. In my third year, I worked as the streaming director for the CBA Project, which produces a fashion entertainment show. I also gained experience in PR, video production, and many other areas. Festival projects are full of things I can’t do alone and things I can only do at this moment in my life. The friends, seniors, and juniors I met there are incredibly important to me.

Message to prospective students

Precisely because Geiko is a rare undergraduate school in Japan, and the community is relatively small, the peers you meet here are truly unique, and I am inspired every day. You may face challenges in your studies, but Geiko offers not only the general selection exam (first semester) but also a comprehensive selection exam (I was admitted through the comprehensive selection!)
You might find an admission style that suits you, so I recommend researching thoroughly! Enjoy your life now while working toward your goals!
