Exhibition “Kathrin Linkersdorff: Anthesis” & Symposium “The Current State of 〈Vanitas Reborn〉”

As part of the collaborative research undertaken through the KUMA Foundation Research Grant Project, “Museum, Nature, and Contemporary Art: Reorganizing and Visualizing Knowledge,” led by Principal Investigator Madoka Yuki, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, German photographer Katrin Linkersdorff is currently undertaking an artist residency at the Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, from September through December 2026. During her residency, she is creating new works based on the University’s research collections.

Her solo exhibition “Anthesis | 開花,” together with an artist talk and the related symposium “The Current State of <Vanitas Reborn>,” will be held at OAG-Haus (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Natur- und Völkerkunde Ostasiens) in Tokyo, as detailed below.

About Katrin Linkersdorff

Katrin Linkersdorff (b. 1966) studied architecture before receiving a two-year scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study and live in Tokyo. After returning to Germany, she worked as an architect while also pursuing her artistic interests through photography and sumi-e, the traditional Japanese ink painting technique she had encountered during her time in Japan. In 2006, she began studying photography in Berlin. Since 2012, she has worked as an independent artist. From 2023 to 2025, she was an Artist in Residence at the Institute of Biology/Microbiology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In autumn 2026, she is participating in the research project “Museum, Nature, and Contemporary Art: Reorganizing and Visualizing Knowledge” at Kyushu University.
