From July 16 to July 26, 2024, Dr. Kiwoong Nam from the University of Lapland, Finland, visited Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus. This marked the first official visit following the signing of an inter-faculty academic and student exchange agreement between the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Lapland and the Faculty of Design, Graduate School of Design, and School of Design at Kyushu University in October 2023.
Dr. Nam, whose expertise lies in service design for social innovation, empathic design, and design value research, participated in the Strategic Design Advanced Project Course, “Service Prototyping, Storytelling and AI”, during his stay. Additionally, he offered interpretive assistance for the augmented reality art exhibition “North Meets South” (on display from July 23 to August 6, 2024, at the Visual & Audio Lounge of the Design Library) from July 23 to July 26.
On Wednesday, July 24, a campus tour and faculty meeting were conducted at Kyushu University’s Ohashi Campus. Participants from Kyushu University’s Faculty of Design included Professor Melanie Sarantou, Associate Professor Yanfang Zhang, Associate Professor Satoru Tokuhisa, Assistant Professor Tokushu Inamura, and Assistant Professor Yasuyuki Hayama from the Department of Strategic Design, along with Assistant Professor Moe Shimomura from the International Office. Following presentations on the educational and research programs of both institutions, a vibrant discussion ensued, exploring avenues for potential future collaborations.
This visit has set the stage for anticipated enhanced cooperation between the two institutions in the coming years.
