Augustin Maurs is a French musician, composer, and interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Berlin, Germany. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire (CRR), at the Detmold Music University and at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin. He was guest of the Ensemble Modern Akademie in Frankfurt and was a scholarship holder at the International Music Institute Darmstadt (IMD). After some years of concert activity, he extended his practice to site-specific musical interventions, composition and curatorial projects. Since 2012 he curates the music program of the Geneva Art Fair which is fostering an exchange between the disciplines of music and the visual arts.

In his curatorial work, Maurs often picks up ideas, notions and conventions of classical music only to challenge, twist and expand them, for example through the conceptual lens of visual artists and their diverse artistic approaches. In 2013, he conceived and organized the project VIRTUOSITY for Berlin’s Philharmonie, for which he invited visual artists to provide conceptual instructions and scores for classically trained musicians to be performed in the context of the Philarmonie. (With: Kammerensemble Neue Musik Berlin and the artists Saâdane Afif, Bethan Huws, Christoph Keller, Annika Larsson, Klara Lidén, Olaf Nicolai, Elliot Sharp, Tracey Rose and Tino Sehgal). Parallel to the Venice Biennale in 2019, Maurs organized the performance series ENCORES on recurrence, redundancy and surplus, with visual artists performing short pieces conceived for the Teatro Goldoni, one of the oldest theatres in Venice (With: Saâdane Afif, Hsia-Fei Chang, Pierre Huyghe, Yutaka Makino, Jonathan Monk, Annika Larsson and Anri Sala). In 2021, Maurs organized the concert KANŌN, QANÛN, CANON (…), on the idea of the Canon, at KW Berlin(With: Yutaka Makino, Satch Hoyt, Annika Larsson, Robin Hayward and others).
