The Center for Design Fundamentals Research, Kyushu University, has been developing the “Essential Concept of Design” series, which provides easy-to-understand explanations of basic concepts related to thinking into design.
We invited Tomohide Mizuuchi from Kyoto Institute of Technology to write about “systemic design,” a comprehensive approach to addressing complex social issues. His article offers a clear and accessible overview of the evolution of systemic design, from its roots in systems thinking in the 1960s to its current developments.
