The reason why I chose the Graduate School of Design

During high school, I was in the science track and initially considered entering an engineering department. Over time, however, I began to feel a desire to study engineering in a way that directly addresses real-life challenges. That was when I discovered the field of "Design." After completing my undergraduate studies, I continued to graduate school, where I am now conducting research in Content Environment Design. I am currently working on technologies that help users find content best suited to them, which is exactly what I wanted to do.

My most memorable class

My memorable class was "Web Service Design," which I took in my second year as an undergraduate. We learned about a wide range of topics related to online content, including information retrieval and recommendation, and AI-driven generative technologies. What made this class particularly interesting was that it wasn't just lectures; we actually implemented systems related to web services ourselves, applying the knowledge we gained. Implementing systems with my own hands deepened my understanding and made the learning process enjoyable.

My student life

Since my undergraduate years, I have been a member of the Kyushu University Shogi Club, based at the Ito Campus. Because most Geiko students are usually active at the Ohashi Campus, my presence is somewhat unusual, but it allows for cross-campus interaction, which is incredibly fulfilling. Shogi may seem "formal or difficult" at first glance, but collegiate team matches are highly competitive and often described as the highlight of university shogi. I am also involved in shogi through part-time work, which has expanded my circle of connections with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Message to prospective students

There is a quote by the professional shogi player Yoshiharu Habu that I deeply respect: “The ability to keep going is a great talent.” Continuing to make efforts toward a goal even when success is uncertain is itself a remarkable talent. Entrance exam preparation is no exception. Even if you lose confidence or feel discouraged along the way, I sincerely hope you will remember the value of this perseverance and keep moving forward until the very end.
