Two Students from the Media Design Course Receive Manga Awards

Two students from the Media Design Course at the Graduate School and School of Design, Kyushu University, have received awards in manga competitions.

Ryu and Tora,” a manga work by first-year master’s student Zui Yoshino (pen name) from the Tomotari Laboratory in the Media Design Course, Graduate School of Design, received the Runner-up Prize at the 34th Kadokawa Newcomer Manga Award. The work was published in the June 2026 issue of Young Ace.
Given that few works have ever been selected for the Runner-up Prize or higher at the Kadokawa Newcomer Manga Awards, this win reflects the high expectations for this work.

In addition, “Number One no Chichioya” (“The Number One Father”), a manga work by fourth-year undergraduate student Natsuko Morisaki (pen name) from the Tomotari Laboratory in the Media Design Course, School of Design, received the Newcomer Award in the Hana to Yume Manga Artist Course.
This work was developed through feedback received in the Media Design Course classes “Media Design Project II” and “Narrative Design.”

The Media Design Course conducts practical education and research in a wide range of media expressions, including manga and narrative expression.
