Assistant Professor Mao Kudo Receives Editor’s Choice Award at IIIDaward2026

The project and design, ‘Pictogram and Environmental Graphic for Special Needs School’, implemented at Fukuoka Prefectural Munakata Special Needs School and led by Assistant Professor Mao Kudo of the Media Design Course, Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, has been awarded the Editor’s Choice Award at the IIID Award 2026*.
The project was recognised for its unique characteristics and merit, its excellence and innovation in enriching the field of design, and the fact that it sparked lengthy discussions among the judging panel.

Although the award is officially listed under the name of the project lead, Assistant Professor Mao Kudo, this project was carried out and produced with the cooperation of student staff and collaborating designers. It was supported by the cooperation of many stakeholders throughout the process, including research, design production, deliberation and implementation.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in the production and research.
