
The book Exploring Image Studies: Twenty-Four Key Thinkers (University of Tokyo Press, 2026), co-edited and contributed to by Associate Professor Nobuhiro Masuda of the Department of Design Futures, Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, has been published.
Designed as an introductory text, each chapter explains the work of successive theorists on the subject of ‘image’. This volume is the third in the series, following Exploring Film Theory and Exploring Media Theory. Among the 24 theorists featured, Associate Professor Masuda contributed the chapter ‘Mary Ann Doane: Theory and Practice of the Image in Modernity’, while Associate Professor Madoka Yuki of the Faculty of Design contributed to the chapter ‘Willem Flusser: Technocode and the Politics of the Image’.
