*Exhibition background:
In an age of widespread hatred, what do people consider love? Why, who, when, how, and how often do we feel love? Why do we need love? Why should we love? In 2022, living in South Korea and Japan today, will we be able to move beyond prejudice and discrimination and recognize love for what it is?
*Planning Intention:
Love is something we define for ourselves. Its object and form vary. Love for family, friends, lovers, love for animals and the earth, love for oneself… The themes selected by the nine artists for “The Diversity of Love” are far broader than one might imagine. Their different sexual orientations, careers, and experiences make their definitions of love diverse. Each of their expressions of love may seem disparate at first glance, and the content they convey may seem different. However, by exploring the commonalities hidden in each love and by casting an empathetic eye on the works, the boundaries between oneself and others will collapse and we will be able to embrace diverse forms of love.
*UN: MUTE
A group of nine artists, including designers, tattooists, illustrators, pianists, photographers, and art educators living in Japan, Korea, and England.
Over a period of nine months from March to November 2022, they shared inspiration and engaged in dialogue about art through 12 online meetings, creating new individual and collaborative works for this exhibition.
The name of the group, UN: MUTE (Unmute), comes from the fact that through online meetings, the group realized the importance of unmuting and communicating their thoughts to others, rather than remaining silent. The importance of expressing and sharing with each other became the identity of the team.
