The VR work “Immersive Heat Experience” won the Kawakami Memorial Prize and the Hachiya Kazuhiko Prize.

In the final stage “LEAP STAGE” of the Interverse Virtual Reality Challenge (IVRC), the VR work “Immersive Heat Experience” by Hikaru Hamada (Tomotari Lab) and Taisei Omine (Tsuruno Lab), both M2 students in the Media Design Course, Graduate School of Design won the Kawakami Memorial Prize and the Kazuhiko Hachiya Prize at the Interverse Virtual Reality Challenge (IVRC) final stage, “LEAP STAGE”.
The “Kawakami Memorial Prize” and the “Kazuhiko Hachiya Prize” were awarded.In this work, we will provide an experience of feeling heat sources such as fire in the VR space as actual warmth and heat. Since the system uses light bulb illumination, the direction and movement of the heat source can be felt more naturally and over a wider area of the body than with existing methods using Peltier elements.

This work has also been highly acclaimed, winning the Grand Award and Fukuoka Mayor’s Award in the Student Category /Entertainment division at the media art competition “Asia Digital Art Award FUKUOKA“.
