The reason why I chose the School of Design
Originally, I loved painting and creating things, which drew me to the idea of attending an art college. However, while considering my future realistically, I initially aimed for the School of Engineering. However, I couldn't entirely give up on my love for design, so while searching for a good department, I encountered the Media Design Course at the School of Design, Kyushu University. I was interested in not only painting but also video production, poster design, and game design, among other fields. Thus, I found the broad curriculum of the School of Design very appealing.
My most memorable class
There are many classes in the Media Design Course, but the one that left the most impression on me was “Plastic Arts Seminar”. I was surprised to find a class where we carved marble and wood and did welding. I particularly resonated with the aspect of the Media Design Course, where we get to compile our final artworks into a self-designed portfolio.
My student life
In classes, I make what I believe is good based on the content of the lesson. However, whenever I see the works of other students in class, I'm often shocked by their unique expressions that I hadn't even considered. Every day is compelling and memorable because there are many students who create marvelous works even through their independent projects.
Message to prospective students
As you can tell from the name 'School of Design,' this school is not merely about art or engineering. I feel its strength is in nurturing both sensitivity and scientific thinking in a well-balanced manner and in providing an environment where you can learn a broad range of knowledge and skills. If you are someone who doesn't have many weaknesses and also doesn't particularly specialize in anything, I believe this school would be the one for you.
