The reason why I chose the Graduate School of Design

I chose it because it was attractive to me how, unlike other architectural departments, I could learn with university mates who specialized in various fields of art, such as imaging and acoustics. Since I was a child, I loved bringing joy to people through drawing and creating things. Amidst my confusion about my future path, I became interested in the field of architectural design, where I could draw blueprints and sketches with my own hands, and they would take shape. So, I chose the School of Design, where I could study a broader array of arts, and then I entered the Graduate School of Design afterwards.

My most memorable class

The workshop-style class where I worked on a design exercise together with Australian students is memorable. We were able to have valuable experiences that are usually difficult to come by, such as going out to the design site we were studying, Aso, and conducting fieldwork or brainstorming design ideas in English with exchange students. The fact that there are numerous such opportunities to work in tandem with students abroad or to go to foreign universities where we can work in groups is also one of the attractions of our university.

My student life

Since joining grad school, my activities mainly centered around my lab. I particularly put a lot of effort into a project where I carried out the implementation design of office interiors, a very practical activity unlike the design assignments in other classes that involved using a tape measure to measure each piece of wood or piece of furniture to use in the interior design, listening to the owners' opinions, reflecting them in the design, and visiting the construction site several times. Being able to participate in and learn from larger projects that involve society beyond the university is a distinctive feature of graduate school.
