The reason why I chose the Graduate School of Design

Music has been my lifelong hobby since childhood. I always thought that being able to make my hobby into my job would be wonderful, but I believed going to a college of music was the only way to achieve that. In high school, I was in the science field and wasn't prepared at all to apply for a college of music, so I'd given up on making music my occupation. However, when I found out about the School of Design, I realized it was a place where I could study about sound and enter through a science examination - this seemed like the only place for me. Hence, I decided to take the entrance examination.

My most memorable class

The most memorable class for me was "Sound Recording and Creation” during my fourth year of undergraduate studies. We formed bands within the class, and those who didn't perform helped with the recording and editing. We all worked together to complete a song. Those who were good at playing instruments played, and those who were good at recording and sound editing worked behind the scenes. Everyone was able to express their skills related to sound. I feel that this really represented the culmination of our acoustic classes and exemplified what it meant to study acoustics. It's a memory I'll cherish as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My student life

I'm involved in many music-related clubs, and I often participate in band activities. I was also part of a club that produced live shows for the Geiko Festival. Particularly in the Geiko Festival club, members from various courses of Geiko would participate, each contributing their own expertise, such as acoustics, video, and lighting. I think this mutual learning experience is one of the unique features of Geiko. For my research, I study sound from a psychological perspective, such as how people perceive and respond to sound.

Message to prospective students

I believe that Geiko is a very comfortable environment as there are many people who share similar sensibilities. This is because everyone loves some form of art and has their own "likes," and we can express ourselves freely. There are many people with artistic qualities that I don't possess, and I find it stimulating to grow among them every day, which makes me feel that I made the right choice in deciding to attend this school. Good luck with your exams.
